I read another poster here say he leaves his RD sitting on his front passenger seat. Will this hinder it's detection abilities? Thanks!

I think obviously it will without line-of-sight to radar and laser sources. Sounds like a silly thing to do (but I'll be interested to hear a justification  ).
"Will this hinder it's detection abilities?"
Of course.
Where in any op manual does it say to put it out of the line of sight of radar/laser? As a matter of fact, all manufactures say not to even put the radar detector behind wipers as that will take away some sensitivity!
he wont get laser.. which is hard to detect anyway.... and i'd laugh if he gets any radar alert as the buld head is metal and will block any radar!
the only radar he may get is radar coming through the windscreen!
It'll have much reduced sensitivity to radar, and no laser whatsoever, for the reasons posted above.
It only takes 2 seconds to slap the thing on the windshield with suction cups, and it'll work so much better.

I was thinking, now there's probably the *only* reason to leave it on the seat. But there's ways to mount it on the windshield and make it not so visible from outside the car.Originally Posted by CyberSEAL
I have to wonder though, can a VG2 or Spectre pick up a detector that's sitting on the seat powered on? Would the bulkhead block the LO emissions? I would think not completely.

You don't have to wory about Spectre in VA, at least not yet.
Using the detector on the front seat is a BAD idea. If you can't find a suitable location for it, get a visor clip and mount it on the visor. Hardwire it so you don't have the power cord dangling. It should be very hard to see the detector outside the car especially if you have tinted windows.
I was thinking about putting between the headrest and the top of the passenger seat, kind of clamping the headrest down to secure it. Then I was gonna wrap a sweater around the seat, or a coat or something, and run the cord down the center console. Downside is I can't see the display, I dunno...
