Ok, first off let me say that I am a huge fan of Escorts 8500 x50. The 9500i Truelock idea was a stroke of brilliance; that is, if it did work as advertised. The idea of having the preformance of the x50 with a chance of no falses, this was a detector that could turn me away from any other.
I loved being able to mute out false spots and never have to listen to them again. Coming from a v1 owner, this is quite a relief from such a chatty detector. However...
I was going bar hopping last night, and I had to swing by the ATM which has a K band false which I had blocked out. I go to the ATM, and come back to see that my friend has my radar detector tester and is firing it at my 9500i. No alert. I tell him its not alerting because I have a false that I have blocked here, and the frequencies could be the same.
This got me curious this morning as I drive by the ATM on my way to work. I decided to pull in and see what frequency I had blocked out. I turn on the freq display, and turn off my GPS for the true lock.
It alerts with a 24.107 K band. Then I point my detector tester at it. I fire a K band at it, thats alerts with a 24.137 I turn the GPS back on, and then I fire my detector tester at it. Nothing but silence. TrueLock isnt blocking out a frequency, it is blocking out pretty much an entire band...
Escort, serously I know you browse these forums. This detector has great potential and can sway anyone away from the competition. But this issue has to be addressed. This isnt blocking out a frequency, this is pretty much blocking out the entire band...
I will be keeping the 9500i, however I will not be speeding with it. I have yet to have an encounter, and usually the golden rule has always been- if your detector is falsing left and right, you are probably in the city, and you shouldnt be speeding.
I will give Escort some time to see what they can do with the USB port. Hopefully, they will not pull a Drive Smart and have a USB that will only create false hopes. I do believe this is what it is though...
To all future buyers, I would stick with one of the top 4 (rx65, x50, v1 or STI) until Escort resolves this issue. This is not what consumers pay for...
