The best way to start this story is... I got a ticket last weekend... (May 24th to be exact). My question is, I'm looking for a little advice.
First off, a bit of background. I purchased a V1 several months back, and I love it. I don't want this to turn into a V1 vs. Bel vs. whoever... but I figured my RD model might help this story (this is my first detector too btw)
On to the story... I was cruising down a 4 lane interstate in South Dakota (I90) with a ditch as a median inbetween East Bound and West Bound lanes. I was heading East Bound. I was driving 88 MPH (the speed limit is 75 there). I was in the left lane, with a car a couple hundered feet in front of me in the right lane, and also another one a couple hundered feet behind me, also in the right lane. I was passing them, so I was moving faster then they were
Suddenly, my V1 goes off almost Full Strength on the KA band. I'm on the brakes at this point, and see a South Dakota State Patrol driving West Bound. I'm afraid he hit me with Instant On. He hit me again from behind as he went by... He turned around, pulled me over, but by the time he had turned around and caught up to me, I had just crossed the border into Minnesota.
He told me that he had originally gotten me at 88, then I dropped to 82, and then he hit me again when I went by and got me at 84 (which of course I knew because of my RD alerts). His Radar Gun had the locked speed showing 84.
A couple of questions... could he have accurately detected me being that I had cars in front and behind me? Also, was he justified in writing me a ticket in Minnesota (where he had stopped me) even though the offense happened in South Dakota? I guess I'm asking, should I go and fight this? I haven't had a speeding ticket in 9 years, and the ticket was written for 84 in 75, so it shouldn't go on my record as it was under 10 mph over. The only problem is, that I live 4 hours away from where court would be... and it's on a Tuesday, so it involves taking work off and all that fun stuff. It's more for the principle of it.
Thanks for being a great board with a wealth of information!
