Default RX65 Rev 6.3 outperforms X50 rev. 5 for LASER!?

Last night I rounded up my collection of detectors (including a brand-new RX65) and guns and made a video which I posted in the Videos area. Here's a link to the video for those who don't feel like hunting for my other thread:

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...30839769959993

Toward the end of the video, I ran all 3 RDs together. At the end, when I was shooting my Pro Laser II with all 3 RDs on, I pointed the gun in different directions, at walls in the room, so the detectors only saw reflections. The V1 and RX65 alerted every time, but when I pointed the gun at the side wall, the X50 didn't alert. I was able to repeat this multiple times. I even swapped the positions of the RX65 and X50 in case one had a "positional advantage" over the other, and I got the same result.

I was surprised by this, since GOL and other reports have shown the RX65 as being the weakest in the top 3 for laser performance. Maybe they improved it in the M4 version? I wonder how it would compare with an M4 X50.

Wow, did you catch that meow warning given by the RX65 during KA-band? perhaps it was a Kat warning? sorry, I just had to!

This illustrates well the (IMO, annoying) artifical fall-off feature of the belscorts.

The one thing I will say is the cables were certainly blocking some of the view of the front laser detectors and could have had an effect on laser response.

    Thanks for the nice video!

I thought of that, but even after swapping the X50 and RX65, I had the same results, and the RX had the coiled cord behind it. I'll have to repeat the tests with the cords out of the way more, and in more positions, to see if I get the same, or different results.

cool video we need to get you a 9500i to test along side those for response times...

Why did the RX65 sometimes give the IO alert and other times not? When you changed from auto to highway mode the RX65 just shows full strength on the meter when it detects the radar. Right before that it is in auto mode and it gives the IO alert when it detects the radar. Looks like it did the same on Ka. Anyone else notice that?

This is due to timing. When it sees the same signal a second time within 10 seconds or so, it doesn't do the IO alert. If I left it idle for a bit longer between alerts, it would do the IO alert again.

I repeated the laser test today. The X50 definitely comes out the weakest for laser, at least the unit I have. I shot more video but don't have time to edit it yet. This time I made sure the cables didn't block anything. I aimed the gun all over the place. My RX65 is just behind the V1 as far as sensitivity goes. The X50 is a distant third, not reacting to reflected signals well at all. Surprise, Surprise. Maybe the M4 rev board (firmware 6.x) improves laser sensitivity? I guess someone will need to test with an M4 X50 and an older (rev 4.5) RX65.

I'd say that in terms of getting your attention the V1 would be last. The 8500 x50 or RX-65 will almost give you a heart attack. I was with my room mate when we got hit going way over the limit and I almost shat my pants.
