No more V1 for me.
Well I should have gone with my gut... I didn't think my new V1 was performing up to snuff. Now i've got a ticket to prove it.
In 2.5 years with the Bel RX65, I never once got pulled over. Not once. I logged probably 40,000 miles with the RX65 on guard, easily. I switched to the V1 two months ago due to excessive falsing from my RX65. Now tonight I get pulled over for the first time in over three years.
Once the officer had handed me the ticket, I asked him how long it has been since he had radar'ed another car ahead of me. It ammounted to less than a half mile.
I'm more than pissed. I can't freaking believe I got taken in by VR's marketing hype. The Ka warning on the first unit they sent me was unacceptable. I sent it back and they replaced it with one that was inconsistant at best. I should have taken the cue that it wasn't any good. But I still believed all of their bull****.
My RX65 may have falsed like chicken little, but at least it warned me every time when there was radar ahead.
The V1 is going on ebay, and I will never again own a VR product. Falsing be damned, the RX65 is going back on the window and staying there.
Let this be a lesson to anyone about to be pulled in to Mike Valentine's trap - stick with a reputable company with some real R&D money like Bel or Whistler - not some crummy two-bit operation like VR. You might have to buy a new detector from Bel every couple years due to "service required" errors, but at least it will warn you to radar!
Yoda of Radar
Wow, I never thought I'd get to say this after I stopping hanging around the EVE-Online forums, but...
Can I have your stuff [V1]?
I'm hoping to have the $400 back that I pissed away on it...

Sorry to hear this Compu. I too am having issues with my V1 but hopefully they will be worked out before I get pulled. My RX65 does seem to be an overall better performer than my V1. I'm going to wait and see what VR comes up with in the next month or so and make a decision on whether to EBAY my V1 as well.

By the way, there are more of these threads in the Beltronics forum where "my detector didn't even chirp etc".
You probably have a bad v1 or a v1 out of tune. My v1 does great on Ka. What frequency/ types of guns do they use in your area?
Are you sure he didn't pop you? Are you sure it wasn't an x band radar? Maybe he lasered you or used instant on? You didnt really specify whether it was a moving patrol car or a stationary car so we can't rule anything out.
dang, this is a hard post to read if your looking at purchasing one.
So was it an Instant On that got you? Or over the hill, around the bend??
Explain the situation. It would be hard to imagine it being a straight highway direction with his radar being Constant On KA..
The alert was Ka band Instant-on. The officer was rolling towards me. The road was long and flat with a very slight bend towards the end. I could see partway around the bend quite easily from where I was stopped. After recieving the ticket I asked how far down the road was the last car he clocked, he stated "coming around that bend".

If their testing procedures are that poor, I have no reason to believe that they can actually fix the problem if they did acknowledge it exists.
I had dozens upon dozens of saves with the RX65 while I used it. Other than the frequent false alerts, I loved it. Many of the saves were around curves, over hills, etc. The V1 has been strictly line-of-sight warning to Ka since I recieved it.
I'm calling VR tomorrow to see what their excuse is. I'm honestly not sure if they repaired or replaced the unit when I sent it in the first time, either way, it didn't work. If they want to say it's "within spec" again, I'll contact Michael B to see if he might test it and let the numbers tell the story.
Your scenario is exactly what the latest GOL has tested with their "forward facing" test. It seems the V1 is the best when it comes to "lab test" but put it in real life "over the hill" or "around the bend" test, it just doesn't perform as well.
The RX65 did under perform the V1 in this test, so I guess if thats what your satisfied with then stick with it. I ordered the STi based alot on the GOL test and the Forward Facing test was a huge weight with my decision.
Unecessary post specialchicken. Compu is just stating his experience with his V1. All V1 owners are not completely happy including myself. I am just trying to be patient to see if VR can fix some of the problems with the 3.861.
