Weird observation between 8500 & 8500 x50
hi, i'm new to this forum..but have been reading for a while....
i've had this 8500 RD for about 3 months.....and i usually leave it to read my voltage....so while driving it reads somewhere around 13.4-13.6 volts....
I just got my 8500 X50 and i noticed that this one fluctuautes at around 13.9-14.1 while driving....
anyone know what's the reason for the discrepancies....
i bought both used....never got a "self cal" message....
could it be that your driving at higher rpms or you havent got your lights on or radio or fan heater etc!
all of them will drink the power and cause the power level to drop. apart from the driving at higher rpms which will recharge the battery after starting the engine!
it could be that the X50 is more sensitive to voltage!
knock the ingition off and then try them without any other electric device turn on and see what readings you get!
the cause can be down to a number of things! all to do with the cars electric system including alternator!
yes i understand the voltage will fluctuate....
i just got the x50 today, and noticed the higher voltage, compared to the 8500
my X50 has never gone above 13.8 V even with lights/ac switched off and with high rpms
Thats odd.... I mean the x50 fixes the 8500 overheating problems, but yet, runs at a higher voltage.
it could be that its running lower voltage hense you have more voltage in your battery!
you could connect a multimeter up to your battery and compare the escort with that! now they are accurate!
nothing like a fluke...... i love the flukes usa made really good quality!

It fluctuates because your car's voltage fluctuates, depending on load and engine RPM, etc.
But I doubt Escort spends much time calibrating the voltage sensor in the detector, so there is probably some variation from one unit to the next.

just want to know why i get a higher reading on the x50 compared to the 8500
if it's not a voltage reader, then why do they have it in there as a feature?
I have both the 8500 and X50. I noticed this too, but didn't think anything of it.
