Default Reception through opaque or clear plastic

I am thinking of mounting a pelican case to the motorcycle handlebar as a way to keep my rx65 out of the rain. Any thought on reception? I drive through VA quite a bit, so the solid black case would keep it completely out of site, but would it restrict detection verses a clear plastic case? Any thoughts?

As long as there's no metal in front of the antenna, the case shouldn't affect radar reception at all. Laser detection is a different story, but if laser is an issue you need a jammer anyway.

Plastic case = fine for radar.

Great news! Just to make sure, solid opaqe plastic won't hinder reception more than clear? Already started drilling the pelican cases for wires!!

Next question would be does it make a big difference if its mounted sideways? As in the readout turned to the right vs. facing me.

The only thing that affects (as far as I know) is Multanova radar, which is polarized and is actually just about impossible to receive when the detector is mounted normally, but can be received just fine when the detector is on its side. They don't use it in the US though, so it's kinda irrelevant.

do you mean as in the antenna facing away from the course of the bike.... in which case, NO WAY, itll screw up everything, but if you mean tilting it on its axis while still facing forward, well, in which case you wont get any more off-axis detection, since the shape of the antenna is going up and down, so you get beter reception of airplanes, which you wont recieve anyways
