but yea, did that large black patch of velcro on your windshield come with your RD?
See my idea does work with the right type of Velcro, as far as the patch of velcro, he said he got it at RadioShack made to withstand Heat up to 200 degrees.

That was a good idea to sandwich the bracket inbetween the velcro instead of sticking directly to the bracket itself.

For a buck or you can go to a store such as Micheals and get several larger suction cups. They work just fine and stay on no matter what. Mine are holding an STI high on the windshield of an C6 Corvette. They are almost invisible unless you are sitting on the hood which is important here in Va where detectors are illegal.

Previously the Bel supplied cups would come loose about once a week or more often if the windshield got hot. Now no trouble no matter what the weather or sunlight level is.

cool idea guys! when I had my old beater car I just epoxied the suction cups in place, figuring it would never come off. Sure enough with a little help from a razor blade I got it back off.

let us know how it holds up...

I think the 3M Superlock would work. It holds my toll transponders well and the glue never seems to melt.

But what I do is to get one off the non-stick pads to which I attached velcro. then I took about a 2 inch plastic box and velcro'd the top and bottom.
Then I stuck velcro to the bottom of my RD. This whole assembly goes on my dash and the RD sits high enough to clear the wipers and for a clear shot out the rear window.

I can stick a baseball cap on it to camouflage it for around town use as only the state troopers have/use laser. in MA Or I can easily grab the whole thing off and not leave anything on my dash.

I just use the visor clip for my V1. It keeps it out of the sun. I dont trust the suction cups. One good bump and down comes my 400 dollar RD. Plus it makes it easy to take with me and mount when im in a hurry. I do like MEM TEKS setup though. My V1 wont fit above my RVM anyways. The mirror is really close to the roof/overhead lights, and with the speedcheetah gps mirror attached, there is no room at all. It wouldnt fit even without the gps mirror. I ALWAYS take my detector down when I park. At home it comes in the house with me. At work it goes in the glove compartment. I had my 1997 era V1 stolen, so I am really leary about that now.

Without a doubt there are types of industrial-level adhesives that can withstand any temperature your car can generate in the sun, short of driving into hell.

This mount would work, is quite some trouble to accomplish.

Has anyone tried to see if velcro works on the car's interior roof well enough to use that as a mount?

That would probably depend entirely on what type of roof your car has, some have Smooth plastic, some tectured, some are plush or apholstered. That would make attaching anything quite the chore.

Headliners on most cars tend to be a tight weave material and does not usually provide anything for velcro to attach to. Some do, but most dont.
