Default Great Idea instead of suction cups

I was thinking about an idea instead of suction cups, esp for people who mount their detectors high.

Disclaimer: if it does not work don't blame me lol

    1. Take off the suction cups off the bracket.

    2. Get some industrial velcro, and place the strips on the bracket and other half on the place where you typically keep your detector on the windshield. (of course there will be a small strip still on the windshield when you remove the detector)

Wouldn't work here, the sun's heat would turn the adhesive into useless goo that would come apart. Happens all the time to dash cover velcro fasteners.

That's probably what would happen here as well.

I was thinking of the industrial strength velcro, that adhesive is super strong.

Doesn't matter, I've used industrial strength Velcro on top of the dash and it just holds up a little longer than normal Velcro if left in the heat for extended periods of time. Probably the best alternative to using suction cups is just using a visor mount.

I think with velcro, every bounce the "stickiness" of the velcro to velcro connection would become weaker and the strength wouldnt really come back. With suction cups, it's not perfect, but I think the strength lasts longer. The harder you pull, the harder they will suction to the windshield. And since the force wouldn't necessarily be evenly distributed over the velcro, it would have a tendency to tear off, from one end to the other.

Suction cups aren't perfect and I'm not sure if they're even better than velcro would be, but IMO I think suction cups are the way to go for now.

    Michael:

VERY nice install, clean, and a perfect mounting solution for above the RVM with your textured glass.

Ah. Well it looks good to me so I guess velcro could work well. That looks like a nice setup you got there Michael
