Default Whistler Pro 78 & XTR 690 vs Beltronics STI Review

Ran across this today and thought i would share. There is also an update today. The review is done by "Veil Guy". The Whistler Pro78 is a solid rd and seems can make the "Top 5" have a run for their money.

Yep, I saw that awhile back. It's basically what Happya$$ has been saying for weeks now.

Veil Guy's also posted an update to the review:

With the new updates, it seems that the pro 78 is now responding earlier than the STi! Performance of the STi for the price of almost 1/3 of the price. Bravo, Whistler!

I PM'd Mike regarding this and he informed me that the software update is almost complete and would be ready for full release sometime next week. Imma gonna wait for his official announcement before sending it in again!

Whister may become a real force soon against the other big 3! Well they are a force with these new detectors.....its just getting the results out there so people will buy them again. Me, I cant see owning one but you never know with this performance.

Guess with the next GOL test they can out them thru the ringer

The Pro 78 didnt do that amzing at the GOL March 07 test but supposibly Whistler had made some changes that increased the performance.

Michael B's update will boost sensitivity on K,X band by ~1dB and on Ka band by ~2dB with POP off (similar to the POP off boost for the PRO58/73 series).

kinda making me wish i tried the pro-78 before buying the rx65 (although I love the rx65 so far). Only reason I didn't was because the GOL tests didn't look AS promising as the other detectors (or killed the pro-58 in performance). Will keep my eyes out

From the short read of thevielguy's review, the whole "select tone" feature of the whistler is something i wish the rx65 had -- nothing like X5 alert that scares the crap outta you (I rarely get X around here).
Tho the K on tone 2 for the whistler sounds like a fart lol.

Another minor quibble, I have, is with the quickness in which either model releases a very brief/weak radar encounter. By the time you find yourself reacting to the sound of the alert and looking to the display, the display has already cleared the indicated band and strength. I would prefer if the Whistlers held on to the signal just a little bit longer, in these instances, so that one can confirm these alerts visually.
IIRC from a v1 vs x50 vs rx65 video, the rx65 v6.3 holds the alert for a couple seconds after the alert disappears. I believe some people were bashing Bel for making people trying to believe it had rear detection. I will agree with TVG about this. Sometimes when I get an alert, it disappears way too quick for me to see what the strength was or even the band.

From what I've been reading about the pro-78 (and whistler's backing of their two new RD), I'm pretty impressed. 3 yr warrenty, free updates, and Micheal B taking care of you.
