Default Highway or City Modes...What's the best?

Hi everyone. I have been lurking for a while and this site has been a great help thanks a bunch!! I just bought my first detector, a Bel Vector 940, after incurring "free money" from getting out of a recent traffic ticket. I was pretty close to buying a Cobra, until I came here, thanks for that one! I was wondering if anyone has any info regarding which mode is best to use. Obviously city is meant for city driving and highway is meant for highway driving. But it there any benefit to having highway mode on at all times? Is city mode more sensitive to radar bounces reflected from surrounding buildings? Does highway mode increase sensitivity to produce more range? Does driving in highway mode in the city only produce unneeded alerts, alerting me of Leos out of probable range, or is it reducing my alert sensitivity to Leos that are in close range. I have searched the forums a ton and haven't been able to find anything. Thanks in advance for the help. Sorry if it's a noob question.

Highway mode will alert you every little signal that you encounter, while city modes filter out smaller signals until they become strong like a real encounter.
There is not difference in strength or sensitivity on any of those modes, it is the same.

I keep mine on highway, just in case... So i may see every signal. Some people might think this as distracting

I've been using autoscan quiet a bit recently.
One day, I decided to switch it back to Highway just for kicks, and got a K1 false.
I changed it back to autoscan lol

As far as I know, I don't think I have autoscan on the 940. But I usually keep it on highway mode. I guess the fact that it alerts me to every little signal is better for my preferences. I guess I'd rather know the furthest most potential for Leos, even if it does mean a bunch of falses. Thanks guys this helps!

City mode, at least on my 895, will allow you to receive (alert) to absolutely NO X band or Low X band. I usually keep mine in autoscan as well.

On most detectors, city mode only affects X band. On some newer ones (V1 and Bel STi come to mind) it may affect K band as well.

So, if you're in an area where X isn't used, you can run in city mode all the time, or better yet, turn X off, or switch to City NoX on Bel/Escort models (I think Whistler has something similar).
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

hi champ aND WELCOME...i THINK THE BEST OPTION for you is to use the search button as this question has been answered more times that jenna jamison has had men....

but for the hell of it; HIGHWAY is the best option, much more sensitive, especially for low power camera cars.

I have a 895 like asianfire and after always leaving it in Autoscan mode, I recently have left on Highway at all times.

From my experience, I have had more alerts by leaving it on Highway mode even though the majority of alerts are falses with X and some K-band false from some doors, but I feel that Highway mode is much more sensitive overall, even to real alerts even though it shouldn't be the case.

I should turn off X since it's not used in my area, but I don't mind all the falses. It lets me know that my RD is working as it should be when I get the same falses in the same areas.

If it has autoscan mode I would just leave it in it. There has been some individual test performed on autoscan and found the sensitivity remaining the same and I experienced the same with mine. Although this was done on the STi so not sure of the others.
