Standby mode.
What (if anything) does the gun leak in Standby mode? Is it detectable, or easily falsed?
The unit itself is in a standby mode, but the antenna isn't transmitting anything at all, until it's taken out of standby. Thus, there's nothing for an RD to detect until the LEO presses the button so to speak.

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

The power to the transmitter itself is off when in standby. However, the counting unit is still on and ready to calculate a speed as soon as the transmitter is turned on. Nothing leaks unless there's a short inside the radar allowing power to the transmitter.
Ah, ok, that's what I was assuming. The only "leakage" would be general weak EMI from the display unit, pointless to try to identify.
I believe it is called the "release" button.
The "release" button would have to do with the "Lock" feature. On all of the units I own, the IO buttons are labeled as: HOLD or STBY (standby), depending on the model. Pressing the lock/release button only locks a speed on the display while the transmitter keeps on going, until HOLD or STBY are pressed again.Originally Posted by kensteele
Well now getting back to my point.
If its in standby mode this is good. Surely there is some type of harmonic or oscillation going on inside the unit. If so these frequencies ought to be detected by our RD. Im not talking about X, K, or KA band.
Why not have a Radar Detector that detects a radar gun in standby mode by picking up these oscillated frequencies? Kinda like a RDD picking up our RD but just the opposite!!
Of course the radar guns will need the STi stealth detection feature but for now why not take advantage of this possible idea to help protect against IO radar? Maybe the same idea could also go towards laser guns before they are turn on.
Any thoughts on this?
It would seem from the replies that the oscillator is not actually powered while the unit is in standby, but just the console is.Originally Posted by Buford T. Justice
