Instant on K (and KA) works by the gun sitting in standby mode (not transmitting) until an officer sees a car, then by turning the unit off standby, getting a reading, then switch it back to standby.

You will pick up instant on if there are cars in front of you that have gotten hit

If I'm all alone on the road and get hit with one of these, how long will it take to get a bead on me? Do I stand a chance?

If you're alone on the road and get targeted with instant-on, you're basically screwed...

Lets say i'm in a group of about 6 cars, on a 3 lane highway.
Lets also say he is running instant or constant on Radar. How does he know which car he is targeting? How does he 100% without a doubt know which car's speed is being displayed?

This is pretty much left to the perception of the officer, I would say that in some cases, he doesn't know for sure. He might not pull someone over in that case. If someone gets ticketed in that situation though, that would be a good thing to bring up in court, that's for sure...

one major road i use is just a two lane 55 zone. the local p.d. drive this road and have their pullouts. after driving this 2 months, i have found that a radar detector is practically useless as the p.d. uses instant on. kinda hard to hide behind cars as most people drive about 5 over anyway.

i experienced the instant on several nights ago when the detector went off as i was going south and an officer was going north. i would say he was about 100 yards away went he turned it on.

so, to sum it up, instant on in my opinion is just as effective as laser at
    night.

i have since then disconnected the cheap detector from the only lighter plug i have to make room for the xm radio.
