Default Does Laser have a new frequency?

I have a bel vector 985. I was driving down a 2 lane road at a speed posted at 30 mph. I could clearly see 2 officers shooting laser at my truck. My radar never went off. As I expected though. But hey they looked board. I turned around and said hey would you mine testing this radar out for me. They were more than happy to do that.

I was disapointed however. 2 officers and 2 stalker radar guns. One officer aims the beam directly at my radar from about 20 feet away and goes off LASER ALERT. Next officer same thing and nothing. He does it again and again and nothing. I even aimed at my truck and the other officer watched the radar detector nothing. But using the other radar gun it went off again LASER ALERT no problem.

Then the officer with the gun that my radar would pick up put it near my radar at an angle and it picked it up. The other officer did it with his still nothing. Its right up next to it and still nothing.

He says now you want to know why? I said why. He said radar detectors are nothing but a waist of money. This Laser gun is on a totally different frequency and your radar wont pick it up. I couldn't argue with that one because it didn't. I called bel and they said oh no there is only one frequency for laser and that is what I have. Well I am having some doubts on that one.

Now since then I have picked up laser on a few occasions and can verify there was an officer shooting radar. So, my question is there another frequency?

Also I live in what I call the radar world. Richardson Texas where radars are made and tested. Called the Telecom Corridor. Here is a pic of a company that test the radars here locally. I caught the guy snoozing in a van and took some pics.

I wouldnt doubt it if he was just flat out lying to you. Cops hate seeing people with radar detectors. I even bet that when he aimed it at the windshield, he wasnt pulling the trigger...

Next time you see the guy, say thank for the advice, you bought a laser jammer

    Interesting pictures!

There is something in this thread about a foreign laser gun on a different frequency that detectors can't pick up:

Maybe the cop was acting so that he could BS you a little bit. You came along and asked them to help you test and they thought "let's have some fun with this guy". Of course they would want you to think that detectors were useless. I found out that a cop who spoke at some local schools told the students something like that...

Well, you're a little less than clear in the post as to whether you're referring to radar or laser, as you used both terms. The Stalker RADAR uses an odd frequency that is not scanned by Bel's accusweep "feature". See the manual that came with your detector for info on how to disable accusweep.

a long time ago when I was a kid and wasn't even driving then I met a policeman who showed a bunch of us kids a handheld CMI speedgun doppler radar. He was bragging that all he had to do was point the unit into the air with it turned on and when he saw a speeder just lower the radar gun and get a speed. This was before "instant-on" was installed in radar units..Turns out he had been right but I didn't know what the "f" he was talking about at the time.. :?

It may have been that the lazer gun was way out of calibration somehow and didn't show up on your unit..

I don't think lidar can get out of calibration. A radar detector can detect 820nm-950nm. Lidar used 904nm, so it's it's a little higher or lower, you should detect it.

Take your TV remote control that uses 940nm, and be amazed how it sets off your radar detector.
