Howdy everybody! This is my first time so I am a little nervous, and I don't know what I am doing. As you can tell currently I live in the radar detector capital of the world. I am proud of both companies, and I have visited both sites. Currently I am shopping for a new RD, however I am limited to funds. Also, I don't want to invest coin into a device which will be outdated shortly. V1 is out of the picture at this time, along with the X50 and Bel 65. I could use the trade-in program up the road and trade in my 4600(Broken) and get 40$ off the 55, however after taxes this will push me over 200$. However, the 55 could be upgradeable in the future. The only pain in the rear is the future of Ku(Whistler Pro-Series). Also, I believe the 55 does not detect both bands of POP. First Question, does the Whistler 58 pick up both bands of POP? Second, why are the Whistler's not upradeable if they seem to use the same cases? Maybe, that is why their prices remain low. I also belive Escort should have more RDs available. Maybe I shold just forget POP and buy an original 8500 for a lower price. A final question, I have a couple pennies stuck in my cigarette lighter plug. Will this weaken my power to my future RD? Well, I will sign off. Again, I don't know what I am doing so if I don't respond quickly my bad. Thank you Radar Roy for this site, and any person who will respond and help me out. I look forward to contributing to the forum.

    P.S.

Welcome!!! I would get those pennies out of your cig. adapter immediatly so they don't cause a short circuit! unplug ur battery and get those out. If you haven't yet, check out Radarbusters.com for Roy's line of detectors. They are top notch and Roy even has a summary on all of them.

Forget about sending your detector to Bel for an upgrade, just send RadarRoy a private message and he will quote you a great deal with any detector he has. It might be worthwhile for you to invest a bit more money to get the X50 or bel rx-65 since they are top-notch. There are a few posts on the whistler detectors so use the search function to read abotu those. There is a forum for almost every aspect of radar so look around!

If I were you, I would wait a few weeks until the new SML 2005 radar detector test is posted to see what detector performs well before buying.

Yes, thanx. I will try to remove the coins, however I think they might be melted in. I am jonesing so I don't think I can wait a few weeks. I am also taking roadtrips to Purdue Univ(in a Jaguar), and moving to Denver(Ford Taurus 93/No SHO ) at end of month. I also need to buy a new CB which doesn't help my thin wallet.

already taking smack about the bearcats that’s a typical Xavier fan If I recall Xavier lost this year to them and didn’t make it to the NCAA tourney. Also People know the Cincinnati Bearcats hardly anyone knows Xavier except you.

If the coin is melted in, then you'll have to get your cigarette lighter replaced.

I used to drive a 1994 Grand Am, and I had change falling in there all the time. The lighter doesn't work if there's change in the bottom, bro.

In fact, it'll blow the fuse, which throws out a whole other mess of crap.

My lighter does not work, however all other electronics seem to turn on(plugged in outlet)(Seinfeld "Hole"). Besides blowing fuses, if a RD turns on, does that guarantee that it has enough power to function properly. Thanx.
