Default What radar detector should I get? I dont want to spend a lot

I want to get a radar detector but I don't want to spend a lot, I just have a heavy foot and would like it for caution. I want it to work well and not be a piece of junk. That being said, Im not going to give a price range but anything over 150 is out, is there anything good out here good for under $100? thanks

Get a cheap cobra and then drive in front of me.

In that limited price range I would suggest trying to searh for a used Escort x50 on ebay.

Remember, you get what you pay for.

Do it right the first time. If you can only afford 150 now, maybe save that money till you can get something a bit nicer.

What state do you live in?

    Is POP important to you?

Best Whistler model without POP under $100 is the XTR-260

Best Whistler model with POP and under $100 is the 1758 / Pro58

If you can afford more $$$, you really should look into the XTR-690 and Pro78

More sensitivity, more features, less chatty with other radar detectors.

690 and 78 are same platform. 690 has lcd display and compass, 78 has led.

    read this

    http://www.laserveil.com/whistler/pro-78/xtr-690/

i prefer 690 cos it is easy to find on sites and buy has 10 dollars off if you use google check out so 111 bucks is cool deal.

The difference is that the XTR-690 has a compass and voltage meter, while the Pro-78 has a very bright blue display and autodimming display instead.

The XTR-690's screen can be harder to see in direct sunlight, though there is a new display that you can get for free by sending your XTR-690 to Whistler that DRAMATICALLY improves visibility. This screen however knocks the price down by $20 and lets them give you a compass and battery voltage meter too.

The meter also looks different... which most people don't care about.

    Xtr-690 shows something like Ka |> |> |> |> |> 9
    The Pro-78 shows Ka ||| ||| ||| ||| ||| 9

I have the XTR-690 and I love it. Performance wise it's identical to the Pro-78, so it is down to which set of features and prices you like.

Might as well get a high end detector. If you drive fast, a top of the line detector will pay for itself cuz of all the tickets and insurance points you won't be getting.
