Default for you guys that make videos

I was wondering how you guys go about making these quality videos while you are driving down the road...do you have somebody holding the camera steady, do you mount it in your car, is it on a tripod? I might want to make one but want it to come out good

LOL I saw the title, and thought "oh god..."

Most of the ones I've seen of cop encounters look like digital camera movie mode or a basic digital camcorder's digital stabilizer algorithm.

The GOL videos, however, look a lot more professionally done, with "real" camera equipment.

I use a tripod with my digital camera in manual focus (if recording just the detector)
Make sure you secure the tripod. I have seen people damage cameras when it falls over.

For the other videos I make you must PM me to find out.

    ^that's gross man.

I use a tripod locked down to the partion between the front and the rear storage area. Unfortunately I haven't figured out a way to lock the back leg down without drilling holes in my car. So it dips under braking.

PLEASE don't be like some guys and hand-hold the camera in traffic. Also there's no need for a minute and a half of commentary in a two minute video. Put the details of what's going on in a caption before the video starts and maybe a few super-imposed ones to show the odometer reading when you start getting an alert, etc.

When driving it's good to focus on the road. Here's how to make a low-cost camera mount that you can attach your camera to - depending on your vehicle seat design this approach may or may not work for you.

For my setup, I insisted on NOT drilling or hacking up the car. I just utilized the centre seatbelt and the three baby-seat tabs on the rear pad. Two wingnuts are used to remove the brace rods if I need the centre seat for passengers.
