I have a laser pointer at work do you think It would set off the laser detection in my whistler Pro-78 I am wondering I know lidar is infared but would a laser pointer set it off like a lidar. I would like to check the range of the detector thanks

It worked for my Belltronics 995.
It was sorta hard to do though.
You may have better luck with a TV remote...
yep, one of my tv remotes sets off rd's. for a laser pointer i think you'd need a 904nm laser
Sometimes it will but not often..... A laser pointer runs in a
different spectrum. Laser Pointers are not IR which are what
laser guns measure speed with. A TV Remote uses IR so it
is more likely to set off a detector.
Hope this helps....
A rapidly pulsing IR LED such as some remote controls, laptop IRDA ports, etc would work better than a laser pointer... A laser pointer operates on visible red light, while what we call "laser" guns actually are just infrared light focused by an optical lens.
With that said, I'd expect an extremely strong light source of ANY kind to eventually overload the filter mechanism and set off a laser alert.
Jdong is correct. This is why at times Flashing Emergency LightsOriginally Posted by jdong
or reflection from the sun will cause a Laser false.
i should also add that Whistlers in my experience are the MOST difficult to set off for a false alert on laser. I've tried all remotes and laser pointers in my house and nothing can trip it.
neither will my STI or 8500...bloody hell
I have seen a TV remote set off my V1. Haven't tried this on the X50 or STi yet. Maybe I'll do that today.
