Hi guys. I've done some research into RDs but I still have a couple questions that I've been unable to find any real answers too.
1. From a number of reports where people go and test a bunch of RDs, in the results they tend to say RD X has a detection range of so many metres/kms. Is this range from the RD unit to the actual Radar Unit itself? or is it from the RD unit to the point where the RD unit is no longer able to detect a frequency from the radar unit? I assume it's the first one
2. What is the detection range of various speed radar units? more specifically the following units...
Genesis Select II dash mount by Decatur Electronics (Ka band)
mobile Gatso radar 24 by Gatsometer (K band)
and not so importantly the KR10-SP dash mount by Kustom Signals Inc (K band)
I'm curious about this because I've been wondering if it's actually useful or not in having a RD. Say for example a Bel STI has a detection range of 600m from unit to unit, and the speed radar unit has a detection range of 300m. That gives you a stopping distance of 300m before you're able to be detected by radar. Now 600m isn't very much at all, and 300m is way less. If you were travelling at high speed and suddenly had to stop within that distance you'd probably have someone rear end you or the cops pull you up to either book you for reckless driving or start searching for a RD (which isn't good if you're not supposed to have one)
