I was compelled to write this post since I really think that there is (or will very soon be) a market for a POP only radar detector. Obviously such a design must be an undetectable design so that it can be used right next to an existing radar detector. With these requirements in mind, there is only one company which holds a patent which could produce such a POP detector. That is Whistler. Why? See their USPTO patent number 7215276. All you have to read is just the Abstract for the patent, think about it, and you will understand why Whistler is the only company which potentially could produce a very reliable POP detector.
Obviously such a POP detector must be stealth (emitting zero or close to zero local oscillator emissions) so that it could be used next to any other conventional radar detector. And obviously such a detector must be programmed to sweep just the specific POP bands extremely fast, and must feature the functionality described within the above patent in order to ignore the adjacent conventional radar detector. Thus POP detection should be close to 100%.
Keep in mind that such a POP radar detector inherently would likely cost at least $250 once such a model is available for sale.
So, the big question is, "Would you buy it?" Before answering my poll, keep in mind...
-- That the latest POP guns are pretty darned good at accurately measuring vehicle speeds in POP mode. Also consider whether or not you think that POP could actually become a new and very serious threat which you will have to deal with.
-- That Ka band speed measuring devices, including POP models, are increasingly being bought.
