    Default Escort X50 Review

Well i got an X50 in a trade with Justinkk2005 in the mail today and took it out for some testing. Its a quiet little thing. But noisy ... not in radar alerts but of this thing bouncing on my wind screen. Unlike the V1 where there is some rubber strip for it to rest on the wind screen on, there is just to small plastic things and god can noisy. I got it to a position that it didn't make much noise as it did before but wow ... fix that escort.

Not at the V1 isn't without its faults. Its coiled power cord is a POS that doesn't stretch worth crap. The DC socket on the X50 is miles ahead of the V1's.

    Ka-
The detector has less Ka sensitivity that V1 by a few seconds. But we'll see how that goes. (my V1 likes some Ka but really hates others). I would like to see how it handles Ka that the V1 J's out with even PoP off.

    Annoying K-band drones -
The light pole annoying K-drones are not reported as much. Put it in city mode and you will never hear them, Highway yields a few but not many.

    k-
There is no initial K mute on the x50 which might be missed from the V1. K falses that are not reported sometimes left me wondering if the thing was picking them up at all. Even in highway mode there is quite a lot of filtering on the X50.

The Spec mode is great (really enjoy that) but Expert meter is no substitute for a good Bogey counter (V1). EDIT - The spec meter is great for Situational Awareness ... Mr. Mike V, you can take that to the bank.

A voltage reading yielding ~14.6 V. Is that good or bad?? I thought that might be really high. (clearly low volts is not the culprit in my V1 Ka troubles).

14.6V is acceptable. IIRC, if it goes above 16V, then that's bad.

My RX65 reported 14.xV on the volt meter when I had it.

The voltage reading isn't necessarily accurate. It can be used as a approximate and relative figure though.

where do u have your X50 mounted? high or low? I was using a high mount at first, but I wasn't real happy with the KA range. As of today, I mounted low, and recieved a KA alert with better range. I know its too early to tell, so I'll continue to drive around until I feel satisfied.

Wow, you feel the same way on a lot of the X50 things. I too am a v1 user but just got an x50 on Friday.

I notice the filtering is very good (even in highway) and I too was wondering if it was even getting the k band drone alerts to begin with?

I feel the off axis is not up to par with the V1. As for Ka, I only had about one or two alerts so its too early to comment on its range but one was off axis and I was a "little disappointed". I have also had no real k band or laser alerts yet.

overall though, i do like it. Its nice not hearing so much falsing, but then again i do miss the confidence of "all bogeys"
