does that only appy to the items you mention? if that was true
it should be on all electronic because you can buy a laptop/TV
and use it for a couple weeks and just return it. is the restocking
fee only at best buy? because i know place's like walmart and
    radioshack don't do that.

Keep in mind you only have 14 days to return it, too, if you decide you don't like it.

Radar detectors, GPS navigators, laptops, cameras & camcorders, and projectors all require a 15% Restocking fee. The fee only applies if the item has been opened and is not defective. I've heard of other stores doing it to, but I don't know about RadioShack or Wal-Mart specifically.
And it is true that a customer could buy a TV for Super Bowl or something like that and bring it back, but I've found, having worked in Home Theater, that really didn't happen often. The restocking fee is something applied to items that would otherwise have this happen on a regular basis, and they'd end up with a rather large inventory of open-box items which are hard to sell as many customers rather a new-in-box unit.

If you’re ok with list price buy direct and have them ship it next day (30 day trial). If not find a small mom & pop store and you can save $50 or so.

You won't find a X50 at Radio Shack or Walmart.

This is for Circuit City and the STI: the serial # WITH the MFG DATE (so you know if you're getting the STI with the 33.8 fix) is NOT on the box, the mfg date is on the STI itself, so you MUST open the box in order to see if you're buying the STI with the latest firmware... OK, you bought the STI, in the parking lot of the store you open the box and see that you just bought a brand-new STI with the old firmware, you return it right away, BUT how can you convince them to waive off the 15% restocking fee :?:

Just say it's defective. Most of the time, they don't check, can't really speak for CC, though. Use your imagination.
