It's getting colder here. The suction cups don't stick as well when the windshield is freezing cold overnight. I hate to find my RD on the floorboard first thing in the morning. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Or you can do what I did to keep it mounted high on the dots behind the RVM. I cut a peace of clear plxi glass 4"x 4" and used heavy duty double sided mounting tape. The suction cups stick better to plastic, and plastic doesn’t conduct the cold/heat the same.
Yeah, most of us here on the forum take our detectors down
when not in use. I myself even take mine inside, I have this
feeling that the hot and cold affect the aluminum antenna
inside the detector and cause Sef Cal / Service Required
messages. This could be just Voodoo but I've had my detector
for over 3 years and have never had an error message.
So my recommendation would be to take it down.
As others have said in post above, this decreases
the chance of breakage as well as it being stolen.
Mine is hardwired by the visor, 10K times better than any suction cups, and covered by a CD visor, overnight I park only underground and even when outside we have frigid temperatures, last winter was the coldest one in 30 years but the global warming people kept totally quite, I never take it down and so far nothing happened, underground parking doesn't allow water to freeze over... but in the summer, when I have to park my car for a longer period of time, last weekend outside the Talladega speedway, I just take it down and leave it on the floor covered by something and in the shade, and cover the windshield with a special anti-sun cover, also I have limo tint all around behind the front seats and pretty dark for the front seats... so far, since 09/06, I've never had any technical problem of any kind...
Go to Michaels or some such craft store and buy a few of the larger suction cups they sell. You may have to do a little cutting but they stick apparently forever. I have had mine on for over a year in everything from 0 to 102 F and they have never come loose. When I had the Bel supplied suction cups (STI) they came off quite often in both hot and cold weather.
i was thinking of using some silicone under them like i read on here somewhere, but then u cant use it in another vehicle. Also thinking about taking the suction cups off the mount ant 2 way taping it,but same problem there too. I got a bit of vasoline type stuff under them now so the cups will stick to the tint dots, and on hot days they slide down the windshield a bit--PIA. I need a better system too.
Will magnets frig anything up being around the detector ?? I got a couple cell phone mounts i was thinking of trying to utilize somehow, which have a thin piece of metal that sticks to the phone or detector or whatever, and the mount which sticks to your dash or wherever, has a magnet in it. Something tells me thats a bad idea. Is It ?
You can also try using just a little bit of Vaseline on the suctin cups or if you carry Chapstick like me, this works great too, just don't use too much or it won't work. Cold weather really does effect Suction cups for any rd.
