Yes heat can affect the unit especially if it is sitting in direct sunlight.
You will probably be ok if the unit is not sitting in direct sunlight but you might want to take it out of the window

Same here, rather it over heat and just have to buy a new detector than walking out seeing windows shattered etc. Windows are not cheap!

I have been known to leave my detector in my car sometimes but i,am not leaving it in direct sunlight and I also have a window tint. But yes I think I should be ok at least I hope so because it does get very hot around here.

Even behind the blue winshield tint my V1 gets extremely hot in direct sunlight. A few hours ago I tried to remove it and nearly burned my fingers. I figure it can't be good for the electronics if I can't even touch it without hurting myself.

Same here, like a freshly used frying pan clipped to the visor but it has been putting up with this heat for 11 years.
Alternates between two personal vehicles (visor and windshield at dash level) and one work vehicle (covered with a rag) but I only take it down when parked at unknown areas for extended times, or car washes & repair shops.
Had a repair for laser in March but I think it was my fault for taking it apart too many times.
    Well, no charge anyway.
