Default SML 2004 vs. SML 2005

I checked out the report from last year found at speedzones and compared it to this years report as posted on radarbusters.com. A couple of things I found of interest:

In 2004, only the X50 was able to pick up radar from the 2.5 mile cone. Now I can see how the Bel and Mike V. could have work on that over the past year to get their respective detectors equivalent to the X50 as it shows in the 05 report.

Now here's wher it gets really interesting...

In regards to the Spectre III testing from '04, only the X50 went undetected by the spectre III RDD. Yet in '05 it was detected at 954 feet!!! That was the longest out of the big three!! So how does Escort regress with that technology? I'm wondering if the unit was even on during the '04 test.

I'm not trying to bash any detector or say "mine is better than yours" I just wanted to point out some of the results from oneyear to the next.

Well it might be because they tested all the detectors in a different part of the W,S. I just wanted to give you some ideas.

Escort was on in 04 the RDD was not on.
Roy has mentioned that the spectre III test was compromised by heat in the 04 test showing inaccurate results.

I also noticed a discrepancy in the distance in which the V1 was picked up by the Spectre III. In 2004, it was detected over 1800ft away while in 2005 it was detected from less than 200ft away.

    jbird,

The "discrepancy" may also be [due to] an improvement by the engineering wizards at VR. C'est possible, n'est pas?

well this just shows they are trying to defeat the spectre!

thats an acheivement from 1800 to 166ft! thats 1634ft wiped off the rdd detection range!

nice! i expect to see a stealth v1 very shortly!

2004 SpeedZones had two distances for V1 against SMS RDD's.

    Spectre 2 detected V1 at 100 feet.

Spectre 3 "prototype" detected V1 at 1014 feet

    2005 SpeedZones

Spectre 3 (in field model?) detected V1 at 166 feet.

Think outside the circle. There are two possibilities.

    1. V1 reduced leakage "dramatically" between SML 2004 and SML 2005.

    2. The production Spectre 3 is less effective in detecting V1.

Why the prototype Spectre 3 did so well against V1 (2004) but the production model does not is a really fascinating question.

Without double checking I dont think they did the 2.5 over the hill test this year. This is where the X50 picked up but nobody else did. I was a little surprised that the x50 couldnt detect one of the ka freq. at .5 over the hill, but can further out from the year before. Perhaps it was a steep hill?

I read on here somewhere that Roy said "You could take the same detector and get two different sets of results." Maybe the X 50 they was using was not as sensitive as last years. Just luck of the draw.
