I have a newly installed Escort SRX and live in SoCal. The only police radar I have seen so far are about 6 CHP's with Ka band 34.7. My response seems to be about 1/2 mile in fairly heavy, but moving 3 or 4 lane L.A. freeway traffic. I have seen videos of V1's and such detecting these guns at a much longer distance, but not really under these circumstances. Does this seem a normal distance?
Second, since I can't detect it longer than that, I am assuming that the officer in turn cannot get a reading at that distance. True or not true?
Lastly, a local Ka band mobile speed sign, that has since been moved, was detected repeatedly at an even shorter distance of about 0.3 miles, but doesn't display my speed, or anyone else's for that matter, until I am about 20 feet away from it. The local K band speed signs display speed much further away. Does this mean that Ka band has a lesser range at which a LEO can record my speed? If so, about how long is the range of a Ka band radar gun as opposed to a K band radar gun?
Thanks in advance.
