Default What makes a radar detector best IMHO.

Well i have been using RD for over two years now. I have been on this site for most of that time and have leanred almost everythign that can be learned about radar detectors. In august i got a brand new V1 and was excited to see how it compared to my RX65. I was happy to see that i got a little better warning on K band, but found that Ka was about the same. Overall i like the V1 i really do but over overt the past few weeks i have got to say that i am starting to dislike it. I went on two long drives in the past month. Both of them around NY, CT, and Mass. I found that so many dirvers use crapy cobras and other RDs that leak that i had about 10 Ka falses on each drive. No here is my problem on one of those drives i was speeding to try and see my girlfriend who had just been taken to the ER (for alc poisoning luckily shes fine now). The last thing you want when going tripple digits is a Ka false in fact it only makes using a RD more dangerous for me. And that is a fact for me! Yes many of these threats were "J"ed out but still that initial alert is very annoying. I have also found that my V1 gives a laser false at about 1 out of 6 stop lights and that it goes off randomly when ever the sun is facing it, or even if someone in front of me has bright brake lights.

The fact of the matter is that the V1 is the most sensitive detector but it goes off so much that it really just makes it annoying. I mean honestly i can't even deal with it anymore. With my RX65 i could drive to NYC from CT (new haven where my school is) and only get one flase which was a Kband at a train station. With the v1 i logged over 11 laser falses, 5 Ka flases (2 "J" ed out) and about 5 K falses (one of which was at the same train station).

Recently i got a friend a RX65 since i thought for someone who doesn't know all about RDs it is easier ot use. I am very happy i did. It isn't that i think that the V1 is a bad detector but i think for the roads i drive it is. I have never had a ticket with my RX65 and i think it is time to switch back.

I am going to give it till over thanksgiving to make my final choice, i am gonna give the V1 a total stealth mount and use my concealed display and also make a mute botton that is easily in reach. Perhaps with these additions it will work better for me but right now it's just not working for me.

I just wanted to post this to say that what it comes down to picking a RD it's where you drive and what your up against that should be the reason for the RD you get. I really respect the v1 and if I where to drive through the midwest there would be no better detector but around a city with so many other divers it really is just too sensitve. I have tried all the automute and delayed setting and really they just don't do it for me. So i think it is back to the RX65. As i said i will give the V1 a litte more time, but i miss the quite ride with my RX65.

What annoys me is when I get a false laser alert and trying to find where it's coming from. Other than that, the V1 is top notch. You get to a point that you get numb to it - laser alerts.

    Default spanky

Spanky, V1 has logic and advanced logic mode. It also has a k band automute which comes in handy in these k band falsing areas.

X & Pop Off ... Use " l " for city and " L" for downtown areas ... you will notice the detector will go quiet on you ...

Well let me clear a few things up. I have used or tried the following settings on my V1.
    1) have tried A, little L, big L
2)have used automute K band and 4 LED mute in various combinations
3)turned pop of the day i got it
4)tunred Xband of the day i got it

I will say that the arrows are cool and of course the sensitivity is amazing but for my driving conditions i need somthing that has better filtering.

    X2.

Sensitivity doesn’t necessarily mean better "detection".

My X was sensitive, my last girlfriend was sensitive, my 9500I only tells me what I need to here... 8)
