Windshiled mount and not taking into consideration performance...
I like the looks of the newer Cobras...
I also like the sleekness of the 8500

some people may like that old look of the v1! i soppose i like it... its got the 80's look to it!
the most important thing is that a detector works good if it looks good its a bonus!
the passports look ok........ and the bels do!
I gotta go with the X50, I love the angled display. I am a little bias though because I own one. I bet if V1 would redesign their cases they would be the best with the arrows and such. I just dont like all the little leds all over the place. It reminds me of the 80's. If they put in a display like the escorts that was a dotmatrix sort and still had the arrows, I'd probably be able to justify spending the extra $100.
I personally don't care what an RD looks like
How it works is what matters.....
I like the style of the PNI Silver Bullet everything else looks pretty lame, and the V1 looks good too, but a little large.
The X50 and the Whistler 1788 are the best looking units
1st: X50 with the blue display.
2nd: BEL 995 with it's interchangeable face plates
3rd: V1 with the magnesium case

I really like the looks of the Rx65 [yes I don't own the 65 yet]Originally Posted by f_399

The V1's exterior is plastic afaik, just within the plastic it has magnesium. I never found the V1 unattractive, even years before I owned one. I think it looks like it means business, no nonsense. The x50 certainly is "sleeker" and looks more modern.Originally Posted by GTO_04
I'll admit to being superficial here, the appearance of the V1 (in pictures, I've never seen a real one) looking like something from 1960 is primarily what ruled it out of my purchasing decision when I was looking to get one of the big three. The voice alerts, volume and Ku band is what made me pick the RX65 over the X50.
What I'm hearing about the V1's laser capability now is somewhat making me wish I'd gone with the V1 though (seeing as how I have Veil which makes laser detection important), although the amount of falsing it reportedly does would be a serious annoyance compared to my quiet RX65.
One day, they'll make a super detector with the best features of each of the big three, PC upgradeable, GPS, cell phone, digital camera, MP3 player all integrated...
