    Default X50 and KA (35.5)

Well, I finally got around to looking at the data from the Aug 2007
Radar detector test results and I'm kinda upset at the X50's
performance. It seems in every test the X50 always falls in the middle
and on some tests gets placed near the bottom. My biggest issue
is the KA (35.5) tests.... Charlotte, NC is now really starting to
move away from K band and their new guns consist of Kustom
Golden Eagles KA (35.5). When everything was K band my
X50 shined but this new 35.5 KA they have started to use in
greater numbers has really given me some close calls. It seems
everytime I have a KA (35.5) encounter I hardly get any warning.
Most of the officers are strictly using " Instant On " so this makes
the danger twice as dangerous where maximum sensitivity is key.

Would you guys recommend another detector for this new threat?
This almost full migration to KA (35.5) hads really got me worried.

Well, the thing is I just need a really good detector for KA 35.5.
Before I needed an outstanding K band detector which in my
view the X50 would gobble up K but not so on KA 35.5.
From the tests I have read it does a pretty good job on
the other KA freqs. just has some issues on this particular
    freq. :?

    yea man, do your research...
I run into that band of ka with the x50 and its usually at pretty close quarters for me as well...

I am not so sure of which detector is great at 35gigz, but I bet you dont want to part with your x50 .. Neither do I

but it looks like it be a better idea to buy a new detector now, how long have you had that x50?

I wonder how the original 8500 did on the 35 gig band sensitivity wise, if it was better than the x-50?

Well, I've had my X50 about 4 years now. It's been a great detector
but now that I have this KA 35.5 to deal with its a different ballgame.
As said before, In the past I've only had to worry about K band but
the migration of our local PD and Highway patrol to Ka 35.5 is going
to make me have to spend some money.... Since they use
mostly " Instant On " as their main tactic I will need somethine very
sensitive to catch the breif signal as they tap people infront of me.

As far as handing off my X50, thats one thing I could not do.
That detector has saved me way to many times to sell her.
It's really a great detector its just in this case I need something
to cope with the new threat. I'll be able to use her in other places
though so I am going to hold on to her.

Looks like I may take a look at the V1 or 9500i....

Yea, I'd never part with either of my X50's ever....

I wanted to know if the original 8500 was the same at picking up 35gigz as the X50 or is it better....
I am also talking about the S7 horned X50..??

Heard a lot of good things about the original 8500 with the Ka band...
    Well?

Orbital- Don't give up on the X50 yet! I have the original 8500, and it has performed great on 35.5 Ka for me. SHP, Raleigh PD, Wake Forest PD, Greensboro PD just to name a few and the 8500 has done great.

Don't get me wrong, I have had the occasional extreme close call too! Just depends on the radar operator and their motivation level to outsmart the experienced detector user!

Good luck and be careful out there!

Stealth I just assumed the X50 would be equal to or better than the original....hmmm I may have assumed wrong!

I'd be interested in knowing the differences too-

On my original 8500 (Rev. 15) the longest 35.5 alert I can recall at the moment was about 1.5 miles. LEO sitting in the median running IO, and yes I had bear bait in front of me! :P

My SRX, which I understand to have the 8500 platform, does much better on 35.5 than 34.7. The same for you dmo?
