Default X50 Smart HardWire Cable on a V1

I was going to purchase a V1 and give it a try but was not wanting to
run another Wire..... Will my Escort X50's Smart HardWire Cable work
with the V1. Will the mute button work on the cable?

The Belscort SmartCord will power the Valentine V1. I do not remember if I tested the mute button on the SmartCord (would require an actual alert to test properly). The killer for me (since I travel a lot) was that the V1 would NOT enter programming mode with the SmartCord connected. I have now solved that by adding a modular connector and a 2-wire modular cord before the V1 (to disconnect the SmartCord's muting circuit, which must work through the other 2 wires).

On the flip side, the Valentine remote audio adapter does turn my Bel STi on/off, but does not control the volume adjustment of the STi. I didn't try the muting button (might require an actual alert to test properly). I have now tried using the headphone jack on the Valentine adapter to monitor the STi audio, but it did not work (I know the STi has its own jack, but I'd rather not run an extra wire up there).

Also, the Valentine concealed display shows nothing (no LEDs lit) with the STi, as expected.

I will update this response if I get a chance to do more tests. Updated 2 times.

I just spoke to a Valentine Rep and they stated that Plugging the X50's
SmartWire into the V1 would fry it.......

I then called Escort and spoke to a technician that had a Demo V1
unit beside him for testing/comparing sensitivity purposes.
He Plugged the X50's SmartWire into the V1 and it worked fine....
He stated that the Pin out for the Power and Ground are the same.....

Sounds like Escort's telling the truth because they tested it but
is Valentine lying? Don't want to fry the unit.....

    I'm a little worried, we're talking about $400.00
I just don't have enough room to push another
wire into my A Pillar.... One Wire would be nice.

Strange as it may sound, it is still possible that they're both telling the truth. I haven't hurt mine, but I haven't tried all possible combinations of controls either. The fact is that the Belscort SmartCord has 4 conductors. The center two are used to power any of the Bel or Escort SmartCord compatible detectors, as well as the V1. The unresolved issue is what might the other 2 conductors do to the V1 under one of many conditions (e.g., mute buttons on both SmartCord and V1 pressed at the same time). The safe solution (in light of the Valentine Rep's warning), I think, is to only let the two center conductors reach the V1. This can be done with a modular adapter at the end of the SmartCord, and a 2-conductor (rather than 4 or 6-conductor) cord from there to the V1.

Edit: Another possible issue might be that the V1 plug might have more built-in noise suppression and/or a different type of fuse than the SmartCord. I'd compare the fuses to be safe, but probably wouldn't worry much about the noise suppression differences (although Valentine's might well be better).

If you use the X50 smart cord on the V1, you will not be able to change the V1's modes. (A, L, little L) - Just a heads up.

SOLUTION: You can if you run a short 2-conductor cord from the SmartCord to the V1. I just tried it, and it worked both for changing modes and for entering V1 programming mode

Ah.... I see your saying that I could make an adapter to fit on the
end of the 4 pin RJ11 that would only use 2 of the pins which are
    the Power and Ground.....

It will work to power the V1 but to operate the setting on the V1 you would need to use the buttons on the V1

The Escort mute button will not work for the V1

I would just use the cigarette lighter adaptor just to see if you like the V1 first. Than when you decide you love it, rewire everything correctly.
I’m sure you’re thinking that you will use your X50 sometimes, but ever since I switched to my 9500I I haven’t used my 8500 once. 8)
I will never sell my 8500 but I probably will never use it again ether.

That's what I had plan to do but I wanted to at least
make sure all my bases we're covered if I should decide to keep
it. There is really no since in running two Wires besides I wouldn't
want to risk to many wires connected to the fuse box..... I appreciate
all the ideas and help with this. We'll see how much I like it then maybe
    set something up permanently.

I guess if I wanted I could run two Wires somehow and use some
of these on the tips of the wires where I could connect and disconnect
to the same fuse in the fusebox.
