    Default Black Friday... Oh no...

    Ive been going through some of the new Black Friday ads already (yes already, gotta get a game plan!)...

    And I swear every major store, BB, Sears, Pep boys, etc are all selling discount cheap < $50 Cobra radar detectors ...

    At least my x50 does a good job filtering... :roll:

    cobras are bad bad news... now would be the PERFECT time for some evil gun manufacturer to perfect POP mode for accuracy. AFAIK detectors have extreme difficulty filtering out cobras while still detecting POP.

    I don't think it's going to work out too well with zombies camping out VR's tiny office on Black Friday.

    They probably aren't even OPEN on that Friday! And the main reason the higher-end RD's don't go on sale, I guess, is because they don't HAVE to. People who know what they're paying for will buy them. Their market isn't in the 100% volume segment like, say, Cobra ^^;

    My V1 does not have increased falsing with POP enabled (defualt), but only caught 9/10 at 67 ms in GuysOfLidar tests.

    My STi with 33.8 fix does have significantly increased falsing with POP enabled (optional), but did catch 10/10 at 67 ms in GuysOfLidar tests.

    Both the V1 and the STi lose some short-triggered detection in the higher Ka bands when POP is enabled.

    Thus, the V1 can be run with POP on. On the other hand, I have to run POP off on the STi so I won't flatspot my tires :wink: So, despite the test results, I really do think that Valentine has a better handle on POP than Beltronics, at the moment.

    Have you tested a Cobra XRS unit operating at a car's distance from your V1 to see if it falses then? Those things generate very POP-like signals and it would be quite a miraculous feat if the V1 can filter it out consistently -- one that would make the V1 a clear winner if POP were to ever become a serious threat.

    That's a good idea, but I haven't done it yet. So far, my "testing" is simply from actual driving (including a recent 1200 mile jaunt with both detectors mounted 30" apart). I do have a box full of older detectors, including a couple of "6-band" Cobras, a Uniden, a Whistler, and a number of older Bels and Escorts. Do you think any of those would do the trick?
