Default Surveying Equipment sets off V1?

I was driving home from class today and received a couple second laser alert from the front. I looked around actively until I reached the end of the road (about 500 feet or so from where I received the alert) and the only thing I could see was a guy using a piece of surveying equipment. Would the V1 pick this up?

Some surveying equipment uses lasers to measure distance, so those could set off a detector.

Also, some LEOs are sneaky and will pose as surveyors or construction workers but will run radar or laser traps. In that case, the unit on the tripod will be a real radar or laser gun, not a piece of surveying equipment.

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Most likely it was UV rays being refracted from the survey equipment. Even on a cloudy day, the refracted sunlight could cause you to have a laser false. Just be grateful that it was a false, as with any detector, once you hear the laser warning, its usually too late! That's where Veil and Blinder will come in handy. Have confidence that your V1 is working.

There are survey lasers which use 904 nm laser, so yes, that's a likely reason for the alert.

lol, I do have confidence in it. I mostly thought it was interesting. And yea, I know it's usually too late, but I rarely speed in the city anyway.

ha, I saw cops using a cherry picker pretending to be fixing power lines and they had a laser shooting at traffic.
