Visor Pouch

I know kpatz has his V1 in a visor pouch. I think I'd like to set something like that up for myself.

So I've been looking around Wally World and stuff but haven't found anything that appeared to be large enough.

The visors on my car are relatively thick, perhaps 2cm... Plus an RD needs to fit... So what is the best one to go for?

I also use a visor organizer and I've had a tough time finding the perfect one. Currently I'm using a visor clip with my x50 and have the visor organizer wrapped over the RD, it's working well for now but I'm thinking about changing this setup in the future...

I got my pouch at Wally World about 5 years ago, after I got my first V1. Any zippered fabric pouch should work, just make sure the zippers aren't metal or they could affect radar reception. Also make sure it's at least 6 inches deep when flat, so the V1 will fit. A zippered CD visor pouch with the CD pages removed should work in a pinch.

Unzip the pouch, and orient it with the zipper down and facing you. Insert the V1, in the right-hand side of the pouch, so it would be facing the correct direction when the pouch is on your visor. Use a marker to mark the locations to cut holes for the wire and laser sensors. On the 1.8 V1, the front laser sensor is on the right side of the lens when looking at the front of the V1 (display facing away from you). Make sure to cut a large enough hole to expose the right 1/3rd or so (1 inch approx.) of the lens. (On mine, I exposed the entire front lens, but I didn't know where the laser sensor was then). The rear laser sensor is the visible red circle in between the bogey counter and the K/Ka indicators--you can see this in my pictures. Cut a hole for the power cord on the right rear area of the pouch where the V1's power jack is.

Insert the V1 and zip it up, making sure the laser sensors are lined up correctly with the pouch's holes. I used a needle & thread to stich closed a couple spots on the pouch to keep the V1 from sliding around and to give the laser sensors a good view.

Lastly, attach the pouch to your visor and double check the V1's positioning. Fire it up and use a remote control to test the laser reception. If needed, unzip the pouch to adjust the V1's volume controls.

Needless to say, you'll want to hardwire the V1 and use a remote display with this configuration. I'd also wire in a kill switch, especially if you're in Spectre country, so you can quickly cut power to the V1 if needed.

CyberSEAL, I see two problems with putting a X50 in a pouch. One is you'd lose rear laser reception, since the rear sensor is on top of the detector. The second is you wouldn't be able to see the display. The V1 is ideal for a pouch installation due to the location of its sensors and the knob (you could expose the knob if you really wanted to), and the availablity of a fully functional remote display.

If you want to visor mount a X50, I'd see if you could fashion up a box to mount it in that would make it look like a garage door opener remote. Maybe even gut an old remote, if you can find one a X50 would fit inside. Or get an old busted CB radio, or other old broken electronic box and hide the detector inside.
