Mounting on the dash affects laser detecting??

I currently have a Bel Sti and I simply put it on the dash of my car in the center. I am wondering if this will lower the sensitivity of detecting laser or not? I have read that sticking it too high on the windshield will not be as good at detecting laser so some people suggest putting it lower. I try to keep my detector low so that leo does not see it (illegal where I live).
