    Default Escort Passport 4600 question

Hi everyone, YAY first post, anyway I just got a used Audi and the previous owner has a Escort passport 4600 hardwired into it. Well i have tried google, the escort site and nothing has really come up. so i have a few questions:

What kind of range does this have?
Does it detect laser? (I have had a little L come up before but no laser LEO in sight)
When was this thing even manufactured?
Overall how good is it, just for a recreational use and should I upgrade?

I know a good amount about radar, laser, and laser jamming so you can talk to me, I will know what you are talking about.

    Thanks!!!

Not a lot, especially on Ka.

Yes, it does detect laser, but not very well.

It's pretty lacking in performance compared with modern detectors. It's better than nothing, but if you are serious about radar protection then you should upgrade.

ok thanks so much, yea i figured it didnt work very well, but all of the police around my area use laser so this would be more for the highway.

But todays LEO's use KA ALOT and you need a great detector to combat that.

not that hot. but that said, iirc, the pinout for the 4600 is the same as modern bels/escorts, at least in terms of power and ground. Not sure if the hardwire had other leads anyway or just power.

so if you wanted to upgrade, you can probably reuse the current hardwire.

bel 940 is your best bet for cheap. of course, x50 is good as well, but if I had to do it again, I feel like I'd go up to v1 (if I were looking for the x50)

The 4600 used a 1/3mm plug, not the RJ-11 like modern Belscorts.

Yeah, like Jim said, if your serious about radar protection you
should upgrade. I really wouldn't put my faith into something
so old. The KA will be lacking and as far as laser, a Jammer
would be your best bet. The new Escorts are nice and I'd look into one
of them. You can get a 8500 X50 for around $299.00

Also, hardwiring is easy so you could just run a newer wire and pull
the old one out. If you need any help we all would be glad to offer
    some suggestions about the process.

yea I am still inbetween the V1 and the X50, rewiring does not matter to me because the way it is wired right now i can only have it on the dash, so I am going to rewire it into the headliner to put the detector at the best position. with this project it does not matter if I get a new detector because i am redoing the wiring anyways
