Default Favorite RD power on "tune".

When you turn on your RD they all make their little "power on" beeps. Which is your favorite? Mine is my dad's old passport (no idea which model, but I still have the box. It's gray with red stripes and a copyright of 1984 on it.) I know that this is a dumb post and serves no purpose whatsoever, I just think it's kind of fun.

The short & sweet award currently goes to the V1.

The take-your-sweet-time award goes to the Whistler XTR-690/Pro-78 platform, which by factory default has the power on voice sequence "X band <1-sec tone> K-band <1-sec tone> Ka-band <1 second tone> LASER <full 5-second tine>" followed by SWS/POP/mode messages. Fortunately via the menu it can be configured for a much abbreviated sequence.

Wow, you could very well have a ticket by the time it finishes booting up.

The V1 is nice and short though. By the time I'm out of the driveway it's ready to rock and or roll.

Well the earlier generation just did X-band <beep> K-band <beep> Ka-band <beep> then the messages, like a 10-sec bootup in total. It was pretty reasonable and definitely helps the new driver familiarize himself with the tones. For the new generation, IMO the laser was the dividing line between "ok I can bear it" and "this is flat-out ludicrous"

I know what you mean about some start ups being too long. I just love it when I turn on the car and the V1 boots up. I sometimes imagine the guy with the orange cone lights guiding me out of the garage. Then I hit the afterburners and tear onto the interstate. The V1 lets me know of any bogeys on my 6. No, I'm not a fighter pilot, but the V1 makes you feel like you are what with words like "Bogey" and the rugged boxy construction, haha. I've got a life, I swear........

Belscort's FST mode for the "Fast Award." Beep-Beep display "X Off" and it's on it's way. Well, that's beside the 10 second window of non-detection. :? Then again, considering my car takes almost 10 second to even get to 60, I don't think I'm in any kind of danger

It's long but I love it when I have the roof off the vette and I start it up in a crowded parking lot.

SR7 External speaker at full volume goes: Boop, Boop, Boop, Beep, Beeeep B B B B B Beeeeeeep. Beep Beep Beep.

    That's strong

    V1s pretty nice too.

Mine, of course, is just like this, but at the end of it says, "K BAND", in a James Earl Jones type of voice. Pretty hilarious. My woman asked me the other day, "Is all that drama really necessary?" talking about the startup. I tried to justify why it is, but really, I just like to hear it.

The GF has an AMG so we always ride in her car. But my daughter thinks the SR7 is pretty obnoxious.

Women are so emotional. Its all about what they like or what they don't like. What is pleasing and what is not pleasing. It is amazing that most women go through life without a clue about even the simplest basics within the technology around us. Most women think that all a car needs is gas to make it go -- nothing else! Years ago my store manager asked me to take a look at her car. She said that it didn't have power when going up hills. I asked her, "When is the last time you changed the oil"? She looked at me and said, "Huh"? The RX-7's oil pan was bone dry. I put some oil in the car and told her to trade it in by the end of the week. She did.
