    Default Hardwiring Questions...

    Hello all,

Haven't been up here in awhile because mainly i haven't needed to. I have the 8500 x50 and it's working great so far. However, i'm thinking really strong about getting it hardwired. (i think that's the term, so the wire/chord won't be hanging down in the middle of everything). I just picked up my 05 TL w/ Navi the other night. And it's beginning to bug the crap out of me because the chord hangs right down in the middle of my 8' screen. And it kind of takes away from it and is annoying.

So my question is where can i go to get something like this done? And around how much do you guys think it will cost that have done it before?

    Thanks

I was going to get my '05 BMW hard wired until I realized how easy it was. I did it on my lunch break at work yesterday in the Radio Shack Parking lot. 5-10 min tops. Steps....

    1. Purchase 2 18-24 guage telephone T connector taps, shortest straight phone line you can find in a color to match your interior, and some sort of tester to check for a 12v source.

    2. open the overhead compartment that holds your maplights, sunroof control, etc...

    3. Tap into a ground wire and a 12v source with the phone line wires, red positive, green ground.

    4. Hide wires and plug in the detector. Done

    Default OHH NOOO!!!!

Hey guys thanks for info. HOWEVER, i'm not too savy when it comes to electronics, except if it's dealing with a PlayStation, etc... I'd definitely feel more comfortable if someone that knew what they were doing would do it for me. So what kind of places will get this done for me?

check with your dealer, or any car audio store. The audi dealer here will do it but they charge an arm and a leg. I would at least take a look at the wires, its very very easy.

When you mention a car audio store, do you mean a place like Best Buy? Would they be able to do it? I'm pretty sure they would be cheaper than the actual dealer. I would actually be scared to see how much my Acura dealer would charge!!!

You have an X50 that best buy sells. Just go back to the car audio area and tell them you bought your detector from them and how much they would charge to hardwire it for you. I would think $20 would do it or you could just pull around to the back where the installers are and ask them if they would be willing to put it in for you. You probably want to get the hardwire kit from Roy and that way you'll have it with you when you go by. It should take at the max 30 mins to put in. Sorry im not in NC or I'd help you out.
