Is my radar detector not working properly??

I picked up the Escort 8500 x50 two months ago from this site new. I've got it hardwired up under the visor and I've only gotten 2 alerts, both K. Ive got is set on highway mode and I have seen numerous cops sitting in parking lots as well as on the road but the detector doesnt pick up anything.....could it just be they don't have their radar on?

its possible. Radar traps are not too common depending on the area. Lots of laser is used and selective IO radar. Go drive out on a friday or saturday night at around 10-11pm and drive around areas where its known to have bars/clubs. I've noticed alot of running Ka radar based on those circumstances.

I think it all depends on your local police force's policy.

Between my house and the freeway, I deal with 2 different city's police. One city's police almost never has any radar on. I literally have had 1 radar hit ever from a local police car. Motorcycle patrols are a different story. They are almost always doing speed enforcement. I bet when they are not, they are on their way to or from today's spot.

The other police department, on the other hand, is almost always running CO radar. I'd say it is like 70-80% that if I see a police car from this department, I knew they were coming a long time ago.

The police in your area might be like the first case more than the second case.
