Default Want to build a Concealed Mounting location?

So i was originally going to get a concealed unit like the sr7, srx, or the rx75 until i started doing some homework and it seems these units are updated far less frequently, cost more money, and don't perform as well as windsheild mount units.

So i've decided to get a windsheild mount unit and mounth it stealthily myself. I was thinking about mounting it here and building an enclosure for it out of fiberglass.

    I'd appreciate any feedback.

Also I've been debating the rx65, x50, and v1 for days now. The arrows of the v1 seem like a really useful feature especially with the remote mounted dislplay for it. but the other 2 seem to false less and have better range from what i understand

Think you can make another one? I've been wanting to do something like that for a while. Or adapt a overhead console deal to work... but none seem to work well in my car.

Ya know any car audio store should be able to fabricate something like that. They do it all the time with LCD's and such so a detector shouldnt be any harder. With that convertible, if you like the V1's, one thing they have going for them is that they are loud. Otherwise talk to Roy and order the bel or escort from him.

i'm going to try and do it myself first, as for a detector i just don't have a clue what to get. I mean i'm sure it really just boils down to personal preference and that the top 3 are all so good that it doesn't really matter.

I'm leaning towards the valentine right now. but the rx65 and the x50 both have benefits as well.

I want to get a detector before i start building an enclosure for it. But I also want to know what people think about this as a spot for an enclosure.

I have a mustang convertible too. How are you going to mount an enclosure there? That plastic is about 1/8 inch thick if that, and it will block the rear-view mirror in order to get the detector in line with the windshield. I have used the suction cups to put it right above the rear-view and then have a remote display in the dash on top of the steering wheel column.

    Default Hmmm

It would be easy enough to build a concealed 'box' out of ABS and fiberstrand, however, based on your picture, there would not be enough room to mount it. It looks like you only have a thin strip there.

as far as how deep the material is, it's deep enough, as to it being thick enough to support the weight of a detector, or blocking my rearview i'm not sure. i'm just looking for ideas for a completely stealth setup.
