    Default RADAR DETECTOR SHOOTOUT 8/28/05

Well guys it looks like we are going to be doing a radar detector shootout GUYS OF LIDAR on 8/27/05 and 8/28/05 (teams are splitting up). We will be testing the RX65, X50, Original Escort 8500, Valentine One 3.819 and 3.825, Spectre, a modified V1 to defeat Spectre by Roy Zegers, and the Vector 985 (the model that kicked butt at SML). We will be testing these against the Enforcer Ka band POP gun, the Z35 K band POP gun, K band Falcon, Kustom Eagle Same Direction Radar Ka band, and X band MPH55 (same units that NJ State Troopers use and are deadly with). We will be conducting REAL world simulated encounters with CERTIFIED LEO's operating this equipment. Will be testing instant on, constant on, and POP. We will be measuring results based on the distance point where the first alert occured.
RIP Duncan my BELOVED black lab son 8/7/99-3/23/11. I will miss you DEARLY.

    Finally, a real test!

SML refers to certain RD's as hotter than a jalapeno pepper and faster than a West Texas Roadrunner....How do you measure that?

How about calling a RD "The Long Ranger" based on how many LED's are lit up.

We all know that if the Ka was set more responsive on the V1, it would have won every test that SML said it didn't win.

As far as POP testing, Roy already said that the V1 detects Ka POP 75% of the time so SML is incorrect.

We all know that V1 already smokes the competiton in the laser and RDD department.

    Yeah,

test in the traffic, curving uphill, downhill road etc.

Test approaching radar behind, round the corner - put them in real hard ...

May I humbly suggest that you include a few older detectors, e.g. the TI DSP Escorts and maybe an older BEL?

I do want to test the radar detection from behind, get some facts on how well these do.

As for testing detectors other then the top 3, we just dont have the money to buy what we dont have :?

I would like to test the top detector from each company though, I wish we could get our hands on a cobra 9700 and a whislter pro 53

There are a lot of things that would be nice to test.
But for this test, time will be a major limiting factor. We'll be concentrating our efforts on testing some of the more imprtant threats, and doing testing that was omitted by other test sources etc.

But this is definitely not the last Guys of LIDAR test by any means. We'll be doing a LOT more testing in the future!

Done my test with that and there's no doubt the V1 wins. The other top 2 RD's will rely on reflected radar beams. The RX65 and X50 when it goes off has lesser signal strength than the V1 with the V1 detecting it first majority of the time.
