Default Newbie from Ontario needs info

Hello everyone I am from Ontario, I am interested in getting a radar detector.

I understand that there is such a thing as radar detector detectors, in use by our fine constabulary.
From what I understand the Beltronics STI Driver Radar Detector is a good detector that is presently undetectable by current OPP technology.

Is this what everyone in Ontario is using?
Do I need to cross the border to buy one?

I would feel nervous about being pulled over, while my detector is beeping. Is there a way to hide a radar detector, while being pulled over?
Is there a way to conceal them in your car?

What about laser is that detectable?

Please any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

The only detector I would use in Ontario is the Beltronics STI. Ontario cops use a "radar detector detector" called the Spectre. This is the only visor/windshield mounted detector to use in that area. There are also 2 remote mounted detectors that are invisible to the Spectre and are mounted in your cars grill. The Bel STI-r and the Escort 9500ci. Both are alot more expensive than the standard STI.

Too many questions/issues at once, first you gotta get the STI, the ONLY undetectable RD on the planet right now, once you got it we will take it from there with the rest of the answers, but until that moment you have plenty of time to educate yourself and read, read and read again, this forum is full of great info about the unique world of radar detectors!!!

The best place to get it is:

    http://www.radarbusters.com/radar-de...ardetector.cfm

Also you will need a visor clip:

    http://www.radarbusters.com/cart/iso...ing&sku=ESO016

and a wire to hardwire your STI by the sun visor:

    http://www.radarbusters.com/cart/iso...ing&sku=ESO011

Now, depends how far you live from any US border crossing, you can have it delivered to your home address in Ontario but you will have to pay GST and PST plus any eventual UPS brokerage fee ($30-$50) or have it delivered to the nearest UPS Store down in US (no tax at all), for instance the one down in Niagara Falls, NY (you pay just $5 to the store) and you will go down there and pick it up yourself and hardwire it at the local Circuit City in Buffalo, coming back to Canada it will be by the visor, they have no jurisdiction over this issue, you might as well buy a simple CD holder from any Wal Mart store and cover it up, but that's after it has been professionally hardwired...
Best of luck and feel free to ask more questions before you decide to order it

Just a clarification, the 9500ci is not immune to detection from the Spectre. If a cop passed next to you his spectre will alert.

The 9500 detectability is very very low, something like 30 feet? It would be very very easy for the officer to ID your car. Compared to that of like a very leaky Cobra etc, the range will be very far and thus there will be other traffic, the officer will have a harder time ID the culprite. So even though the 9500 barely leaks anything it still does at a very small range. Just cross your finger an officer does not pull beside you.

The STi, you have to be within inches, basicly an officer needs to poke his head inside your car, your already screwed. I always wondered with that if the STIr (remote external install) would be vulnerable if a officer pull besides you, chances are still no, but, imagine if the spectre was externally mounted, it would be that much more closer, one better have there finger on the kill switch.

The 9500ci uses the STi's FCC certified G8M3 antenna. Thus both the STi-R and the 9500ci are just as immune to detection by the Spectre as the standard dash mounted STi. All three of these Belscort models are completely stealth as far as Spectre detection is concerned. Amoney, obviously you were assuming that the 9500ci used the 9500i's M4 platform which it doesn't. Just a "heads up" for you!

OK, 1) what the heck is this 9500ci? where is it coming from, available in US? 2) any GOL tests on this whatever 9500ci to show exactly that's totally immune to Spectre 3 or 4? 3) Is this 9500ci a regular RD or a remote one like STI-R that costs a ton of money plus separate professional installation?
    TIA

The 9500ci is the remote version of the 9500. Plus, as MemTek mentioned, it uses the Sti's antenna and platform making it Spectre-proof. Also, with the 9500ci, you get Escort's new ZR4 laser jammers.

So if you just want the remote Sti, get the Sti-R.
If you want the 9500's lockout capability, plus jammers, get the 9500ci.

You can see the info at either the Beltronics or the Escort websites.

No GOL tests yet--as both units are very new.

Got it now, thank you Jerry very much, did not know about this very new product, personally I don't need it, pretty happy with the STI, also I think it costs a bunch of money, not yet ready for such upgrade, better get a police scanner like Uniden 996 which I don't have at all... got the global warming lights back on?

I'd personally love the Sti-R, but I've got a hard time justifying its $1100 USD price tag (installation extra.)

There's some rumors floating around that the remote Sti is more sensitive than the regular Sti. This might have to do with the fact that its typically mounted down low behind the car's grill, so they're trying to boost its sensitivity a bit.

    Right I was!

Wonder why Escort does not advertise this fact of RDD immunity?
