OK experts, I need some advice. As much as I would love a V1 or a high-end Bel (love the STi) or Escort, I can't get one of these beasts because my wife would have an excrement fit if I spent $400-500 on a RD. She freaked over the $100 I spent for the damn Cobra in an impulse purchase at Wally World (still well within return period). I will give props to the Cobra for LIDAR detection as it saved my ass on the NYS Thruway just this past weekend. The Ka sensitivity sucks on this unit though as you all know. After reading through the forum, I have narrowed my search to a few moderate priced RDs. Please recommend the best "bang for the buck" among the potential candidates:
Bel 940 (Is the 955 worth the extra $27 on Amazon?)
Whistler Pro 78
Bel 995 (this is a stretch for me to pull off, but I love the freq. display)
I know these all seem to be well respected on this board and probably can't go wrong with any of them, but would like to spend as little as possible without sacrificing significant quality. Also, I am only interested in purchasing new from a reputable reseller such as Amazon.com.
Your advice and expertise would be greatly appreciated.
Just a little backround...I drive a Chrysler Sebring Convertible and typically average 20 - 25 over posted limit, so I need something that will give me time to get within reasonable range of the PSL, as well as be loud enough to hear with the top down at highway speeds.
