More or less probably lack of education or just "expecting" this detector to sniff out and alert to any and all LEO's.
I don't drive a whole heck of alot. Mostly back and forth to work, roughly 30 miles total all highway, and mabye a little bit on the weekends. Don't go outside of the state either. Well I've passed dozens of state police up here and it's starting to bug me now because every time I do, I get no alert.
I'm starting to wonder if it's my detector or if the staties are using some new type of radar technique. I have been able to detect local LEO's with their K band however, staties, they sneek up from behind and go right on by, I can drive by them and they appear to be setup to clock traffic, and nothing, not even a blip.
I don't understand the whole I/O phenomena that if it is used, will I get a strong signal no matter what distance? I would think that if it was used, and I was far enough away I might get a small 1 dot alert?
And if that's not enough, I was at a local Citizens bank at the drive through when all of a sudden, full blast Ka, then it trailed off and went quiet. Was very odd, again it was at that long stretch of double laned road with no obstruction but no LEO in sight.
Then recently on the highway I have been getting faint 1 dot K band alerts that go off then dissapear. I'm going to chalk this up to detecting yes, I never thought it would happen to me, a Cobra RD. It's really very annoying! I happened to only see this once, a vehicle behind me and lone behold a cobra RD on the dash. I tried to replicate the alert when we came to a quick stop and got the vehicle close to me as before when I received the first alert but no dice.
So there are the things that have happened to me that I as a person new to the RD scene again, are odd.
On a side note, the wife is tired of hearing "X-band" now and asked me to shut it off if it's not a real threat.... mabye the next RD I'll get one that I can turn off X
I live in NH too, and I often see troopers parked in the highway medians but NOT running any radar, at all. Sometimes they are just watching traffic, or doing paperwork, or taking a donut break, or something.
They could be doing really selective instant-on, where they don't fire the gun until they see someone who looks like they're going too fast. So even in heavy traffic you might not get any alert at all.
They could be using laser too, but this is usually pretty obvious when you pass them, since they're usually outside the cruiser. A favorite technique is to use the roof of the cruiser as a prop to steady the gun. I don't see laser that often though. 9 times out of 10 when I see a cruiser he's just sitting in it doing whatever. They could just be there to slow traffic down too.
And yes, Cobras (or Crapras as we like to call them here) are notorious for setting off other detectors. The Ka blast you got near the Citizens Bank was probably due to someone with a Crapra too. And as you probably know by now, many automatic doors on stores use K band sensors.
I haven't seen X band in NH in 15+ years. You're safe turning it off.
What RD are you using right now?
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!
If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?
