Another thing I was thinking of, was the S7 platform more reliable in terms of service required messages or other problems? I hope owners of both can chime in on this.

I had an old S7 8500 and it was good but occasionally it would give service required message when it got older. I would say it was pretty reliable, but it also wouldn’t tell me if there was something wrong until it was pretty bad.Originally Posted by focalcivic
The difficult part about your question is the new M4's have more programming to let you know what’s going on, or fixes its own problems. For example: service required, Reset power, self cal, most M4's go through a test to see if everything is up to speck, if not it will notify you in some way. Where outer RD's won’t tell you there is something wrong/off. Its a bit of a double edge sword.
Having owned several S7's and 2 M4's (both X50's), I can say that in my experience the M4 is more reliable long-term. I had 2 of the S7's pull a service required message after owning them for a while. The M4's have not done that in the couple years I've owned them.
However, other people may have experienced different things.
I have a 4405 S7 RX65. It has never given me any Self Cal messages. The only issue I've had with it is sometimes you have to press the power button more than once to turn the detector on or off. It hasn't done this for awhile though.
Here is a thread I posted awhile back about that.
That might be more common then you think, I press a little firmer to start mine, the buttons seem a little soft, prob the nature the button itself.Originally Posted by Retaliation
The S7's are more complex, so there's also more that can go wrong...
My X50 (S7) has done self-cal only once, and that was like a year ago. I've had it for over 2 years.
My RX65 (M4) hasn't had any performance-related issues, but it's less than a year old. The only issue with it is a firmware bug most likely. Sometimes it will freeze when it's in programming mode, if a radar signal is picked up when entering or while in programming mode. When this happens I have to unplug and replug it and then it's fine. During normal operation it's fine.
Re: the power button, I think it has a slightly delayed response. If you push it too fast nothing happens. You have to hold it down for a second or so.

I have to hold down my power button on my 9500I to turn it off and on too. But it is suppose to do that.Originally Posted by kpatz
