Is it okay to mount a RD behind the tint strip at the top of the windshield? It is not metallic, just the factory tint. I did a search but I couldn't find any good definite answers.

I use to be against mounting it behind the strip. However, I gave it a try and have seen no drop in performance. Mount it up as high as possible!Originally Posted by Cips
Yes, it's ok. You might lose a small fraction of range but nothing noticeable. Plus mounting it behind the strip deters theft and provides stealthiness against police.
I havent noticed any significant difference mounting it on the factory tint band. I don't see why not mount it there.
Non-metallic tint strips (virtually all OEM tint strips) will not affect radar reception at all, but may slightly reduce laser sensitivity. One could argue that the ideal mounting location for most vehicles is roughly mid windshield since this allows the RD to also optimally pick up additional radar reflections off of the car's hood. Yet mounting high up either behind or just under the tint strip allows the RD to have a better view of the road ahead.
Thank you guys.
I tested this by pulling into a shopping mall with Kband doors and sat across till I got about 2 bars with rd above rvm shooting through factory tint and then moved rd out side window from same distance and did not see a differance in detection. I actually have a after market tint strip also across top but cut a section out of center wide enough for rd to shoot through with no problem. I get great range plus the darker after market tint is dark enough it helps front of rd blend in and hard to see from front of vehicle.
There is a spot where mine used to go off consistently in the same location from a grocery store. Now that I have it mounted in the tint I notice about a 50 foot gain from the original point of detection. The rear horn also seems to be more sensitive.
I notice no difference in laser detection. The arrows and bogey counter still work flawlessly. It's also less noticeable from the outside.
Not sure if the above answers my question, however its a V1 anyway.
Has anyone tested it at the threshold of receiving radar with and without the tint strip? any change in initial receiving of radar signal?
If I remember (and I probably won't) the next time I see a radar speed thingy I will try and test this.
