Caught almost in ohio or not?

Hello all:

I'm new to the board! Let me first say I drive a good bit around 40-50k miles a year. I own a escort 8500 X-50. Been a good detector only one ticket in VA with driving radar.

I move from maryland to cleveland and can't believe how bad these cops are in OH!

I was driving the other night late moving pretty good on a country road when I see headlights approaching. I slowed down some and it was a local OH cop. I passed him detector didn't go off. I saw him look to turn around. I could have lost him on the country road, but i wanted to see if he would come after me. Finally two miles later at an intersection he pulls me over. Saying I was doing 58 in a 45??? I actually was probably moving quicker. So he takes my license and I couldn't find my registration. He says ok. Gives me warning and was polite. I don't think he used anything on me. My detector would have gone off.........plus it was like 2 am so I think he just wanted to see if I was drinking.. What do you guys think?? Making up the speed charge? He would have given me the ticket if he had it on radar

Welcome to the board. You did say he was moving...that takes out the Lidar. Cops can pull you over and come up with anything they want.

In OH you got to watch out for Laser

Nah it wasn't laser. You have to be stationary for that. He was coming at me with moving radar which should have signal K or KA hard on the detector. He visual knew I was speeding. I think he made the 58 in 45 up to see if I was drinking etc....... With me being the only other car on the road the detector would have been screaming..... plus i got no ticket

what about X, do you have that turned off? They use X in Ohio like crazy

I had X on in Auto mode. Wasn't aware of moving radar using X??? It signal nothing regardless with X on. It was weird....... That why i'm lead to believe it was bogus

I suggest that you not use auto mode on the X50. Always use highway when you are on the highway. In the city, the best thing would either to use a city mode or continue in highway mode while memorizing the location and signal strength of the falses along your daily route.

The cop either lasered you from a distance or hit you with quick burst of instant on radar that auto mode failed to report. Either way you are pretty luck to get away with a warning in Ohio.

and just to add if you live in OH now you should go on and get some laser counter measures.

Ohio will def eye speed you and pull you over. They may not give you a ticket, but I have been pulled over for many stupid things, and everytime I have they will ask "Have you been drinking tonight"

I am sure thats why he decided to pull you over. If you are going to live in ohio, you DEF need a blinder and VEIL. On the highways, you will see a lot more action out of those 2 then you would your radar detector, that I will promise you.

Good news is you dont have to conceal your detector now, but you have a whole new threat to face. I personally love living in ohio, because all they use on the highway is laser, and I know they wont get a speed on me.
