    Default HEAT and remote RD

We all know we shouldn't leave our RD's mounted when left in a hot vehicle. Question is? Why doesn't the heat affect remote RD like it does dash mount. I realize just the detector is in the grill, but that is a lot of heat.
The brains must be affected just like our dash mounts. Whats the deal?

    Well...

-- Mounting below the radiator (underneath front bumper area) is best with regards to heat. If the remote antenna in this location is also in the shade then it shouldn't get much hotter than ambient shade temperature.

-- Obviously, it would be better to mount the remote antenna in front of the car's radiator rather than just above the radiator since heat rises. In warmer environments it might be nice to install a switch to optionally keep the radiator's electric fan continuously turned on whenever the car's ignition is turned on.

-- One of these days, when Peltier coolers become less expensive to manufacture, then we might see remote RD antennas with built-in Peltier coolers and heat sinks such that the Peltier cooler could either (depending on whether or not the applied voltage is reversed) cool or heat the remote RD antenna depending on whether or not the ambient temperature is very hot or very cold. That would be cool since this would provide more consistent performance from the remote antenna if its temperature is held within a narrower range.

I agree MEM-TEK, but what about the brain mounted inside the car. No way to move that. I am curious because I had heat problems with the X50 lately. The way mine is mounted, it is very hard to remove it everytime I leave it.

My SRX brain is mounted below the dashboard. It's much cooler down there than up on the windshield in direct sunlight.

X2, much cooler under your dash, it's not up by the windshield where it gets the greenhouse effect.

Here's where my Rx75 antenna and display module are.I get good reception where it is now,but i was thinking of moving it down to under the bumper just to see if i would get any better reception.

You will get much better reception if you mount the antenna under the bumper. That silver painted vertical grille definitely is reducing your reception and range.

Okay well once i return from here in Iraq,i'll move it below the bumper. Here's a pic of my front end minus my plate.Feel free to express exactly where would be best.

Would at the very bottom below the grill be best? That way it easier for the antenna to pick up signals bouncing off the pavement.

i left mine on its high mounting position on my windshield all the time too until the weather has gotten pretty hot here in the last week or so. now i just disconnect the power cable and slide it out of the suction cup mount and put it under the seat where it stays pretty cool while im at work.

i have no doubt that the heat could possibly damage it considering how hot the car was inside it even this evening here so i believe its worth taking the time to take it down in hot weather. i just hope i dont forget to do it over the summer.
