    Default Clean scratches

Has anyone here ever take apart their detector to clean the plastic clear front and back lenses with one of those plexy-glass cleaners? usually those cleaners are fro car headlights, but I would think they work the same on all plastic parts. Would removing scratches with this chemical hinder radar detecting performance? Any feedback is welcome

If you take apart the V1, you void the warranty, and Valentine Research won't touch it if you want to upgrade it. I don't know about Escort, but they may have a similar policy.

For the scrathes, as long as you clean the chemical off sufficently with water, it should perform fine. I wouldn't use a plexy-glass cleaner, Windex will clean it. If the scrath is in the plastic though, it isn't coming out. If it is on the surface you could scrape it off with your finger nail (my favorite method) or perhaps a credit card. That way you don't have to use any cleaner, just water.

That said, how are you getting scratches on it anyway?

well they are just minor scratches. i recently used one of those "polish your headlights" solution and it worked great. I was hoping to use it on my radar lense, (display lense and radar window/laser lense cover). Windex gets those minor scratches out? The scratches just are from taking it down, putting it up, moving around in my glove compartment, etc. i know that the chemical will remove the scratches and clean it up, I just dont want it to affect the radar sensitivity.

I used windex and its real good to remove fingerprints but cant remove scratches, its cleaning really well, just put a little if you try it because it can enter in the RD. For those "polish your headlights products" most of them are made with abrasives, headlights plastic is strong but RD lenses are really sensitive to this and i think youll scratch your lenses even more with this.

Mequiar's PlastX works perfect with a microfiber cloth. I had minor scratches that are now gone.....Front and rear lenses look like new.

You can take sand paper to it, and it probably won’t affect performance. So any of the above are fine.
Escort use to have lenses on some units that were ruff and hazy.

I second that, use meguairs, they have it at Wal Mart. Just use a little. Overall the detector will get scratches from use.
