    Default Where do they go?

When the police take away your RD, what happens to it? In Va I know it eventually is returned. But everywhere else, what happens to the unit? I am sure they don't just leave them on a shelf... maybe I should call up the SQ and OPP and sell "Quality Pre-Owned" detectors in the US, maybe on ebay?

This sounds like a very good reason to buy a V1.

It would hurt a little to roll over a V1

Your right SAS, the V1 might withstand the car, the other detectors would be crushed.

In Ontario, the detector is actually kept as evidence until the conviction. The units are held at the specific detachment in an "evidence locker" or some other type of safe-keeping.

Technically, if the police were to confiscate your detector and you were found not guilty, they would have to give it back. If for some other reason they destroyed it before the court date, (1) you would win the case as they would not have the detector to show as evidence in court and (2) they (the Crown) would have to compensate you for your destroyed detector.
