Default Passive measures only??

I recently acquired a 1987 Porsche 911 turbo. Haven't had a radar detector in years but after years of driving trucks, minivans, sedans, etc, I definitely need one again. Purchased a 9500i and I've been very impressed with it so far. So here's my question... They use a lot of laser in my area as well as radar. The 911 is a rear engine car and has no grill, etc in the front to mount a jammer from what I can tell, at least I haven't figured out where I'd mount the jammer. Anyway, without the jammer, the car has a very low laser profile, really the only thing the laser could reflect off would be the license plate (front required in Ohio), and the headlights. I'd be interested in everyone's thoughts on the following

1. Do nothing, always have a rabbit

2. Laser shield the plate and veil g4 the lights

3. Leave front plate off and risk the 100 dollar fine, not a moving violation however, and yes or no on the veil

4. Color copy plate, laminate and put on front. Again, could potentially get a fine for no front plate, but may cause Leo to shoot the "plate" before moving to the lights giving me time to react.

I appreciate all opinions.

Most people on here will strongly advise against relying on passive countermeasures to protect you from laser, especially if it is heavily used in your area. Although you can get a lucky save sometimes, the protection is far from reliable, and you'll get busted sooner or later.

Passive, the best you could do is VEIL the headlights, and also do something about the front plate (replica plate, laser shield, etc). Even then, I would expect that you could be picked off at at least 1000 feet with some guns. The only way these will help you is if you can depend on your detector to alert almost every time your vehicle is targeted with laser, and the only detector that has been proven to do that is the Valentine One:

Laser Reception Performance Comparison Charts Grouped by Detector

Granted, the 9500i wasn't tested, but IMHO it would be only "wishful thinking" to believe that it performs much better than BEL/Escort's other product offerings that were tested.

I go along with what the professor said. Ohio is laser central. Consistently speeding in Ohio without a jammer will mean that it won't be long before you are asked to sign in the red box.

1: A front plate on a 930 is a crime.

2: Mount the jammer heads vertically on either side of that big black thing in the middle of your bumper.

3: Get in line for the Veil, and start praying...

Color-copy plate (if of non-standard design), laminate for weather protection, then use LaserShield, and camouflage it with a plate-frame that in no way obstructs any part of the plate.

Alternatively, if you're using a standard tri-color, you could use the CR8APL8. Also "dress" the edges with a plate frame to camouflage it.

Final alternative would be to use the state-issue, but "dressed" with either the LaserShield or with 3M Clear Duct Tape. Camouflage as per above.

It's not so much the "fix-it-ticket" that's the worry (typically, that's all they'll issue), but rather, the "time-cost" of the pull-over, as well as this being good "bait" for the enforcer to shoot that particular area.

And in this respect - in offering up "bait" - yes, I'd *strongly* recommend, as a fellow Ohioan, to not worry too much about passive measures, and instead to funnel those funds straight towards obtaining proper ACTIVE jamming protection.

Do we have any evidence that a real plate behind a Lasershield is significantly more reflective than a photocopied or fake plate behind a Lasershield?

IDK, my 9500I has saved me to many times for me to think its as sensitive to laser as my 8500 that has never gone off with a confirmed hit.

Ether way he needs a jammer.

I'll have to post a picture of the front. It has a modified front end without the "big black things" mentioned above. Thanks for everyone's input. I too would like to know if a laser shield on a regular plate vs a fake plate vs a laser shield on a fake plate, etc, is less reflective. Doesn't seem like it would be that hard to figure out if you had a laser gun at your disposal.

laser shield on a fake plate would be best...

No, not that I can recall - but perhaps some of the old-timers here will be able to correct me of this.....

Regardless, that would seem to reason, though.

Imagine a VEIL'ed headlight, versus, say, a copy of the headlight (as, say a 2D-sticker), VEIL'ed.
